Has Michael Ohlman taken a step backwards in his development, or am I looking too much at his stats so far? I expected him to have a big year.
Ohlman has certainly struggled both at and behind the plate. However, I think the issues at the plate will begin to clear up. Check out this brief video of Ohlman from 5/22:

As shown in the video, Ohlman’s swing is nearly identical to the beautiful and productive swing he displayed in Frederick. The hands are quiet, the load is soft and allows for him to produce a swing with minimal noise. His bat speed is solid-average, and certainly not detrimental to catching up with velocity at higher levels. I have always enjoyed his swing, but there may be only average bat-to-ball skills from Ohlman. Essentially, he has a nice swing but does not always make sound contact off the bat. Barreling pitches is a big part of being a productive hitter, and I know a few scouts that have said this multiple times to me. I think the bat is good enough though, and will play at least average at the next levels. I expect Ohlman to turn it around offensively.

With the MiLB all star break around the corner, promotion time is coming. Yaz, Harvey, etc are sure to move on. In order to move up, someone has to move out. Anyone high on your radar to be cut loose at the break?
There are surely a few players that will unfortunately end their careers as an Oriole, as the larger prospects take over the spots. I talked about potential promotions in this piece here, and we should definitely expect to see some soon. There are a few players that could end up getting cut. I wouldn’t say I am high on any of the players, but here are a few noteworthy ones:

Jason Esposito – Former 2nd round selection, has not hit at all with the Orioles. The bat is poor and I highly doubt it ever improves. He could stick around as a bench/utility guy though even if they do call up Drew Dosch and/or Trey Mancini.
Creede Simpson / Joel Hutter - Same thing as Esposito. They could stick around as a bench/utility guy, but it would not shock me to see them cut. Simpson leads the Keys with 6 HR.
Brenden Webb / Michael Burgess / Tucker Nathans – A promotion for Mike Yastrzemski likely means one of the Keys’ outfielders will be cut or moved up. Burgess would make the most sense, as he is 25 and an organization player signed as a MiLB free agent this off-season.
Johnny Ruettiger / Chih-Hsien Chiang – One of these spare outfielders could be cut loose if the Orioles decide to promote Glynn Davis to Bowie. Both have performed poorly, and Ruettiger has stagnated at AA.
Matt Price – He has not pitched well the entire season, and the stuff has been passable at best. The fastball is way too straight and easy to pick up out of his hand.
Mark Blackmar – He has been the swingman/spot starter for Frederick, and could likely be cut loose if the Orioles call up all three of Hunter Harvey, Mitch Horacek and Steven Brault.

There is plenty more that could be potential cuts, but these are the most logical ones. The AA/AAA cuts are too volatile for me to even guess.

Steve Pearce, Nelson Cruz, Manny Machado: Who should bat second?
Ah, lineup construction, the area of much consternation and verbosity for baseball fans. As Keith Law rants about on Twitter on a daily basis, statistically speaking one of your best hitters should bat second. Conventional thought typically has a table setter type that can lay down some bunts and move the lead-off over. Then, slotting your best hitter third. I disagree. There are many reasons, but one the best ones is that a two hole hitter is more likely to come up later in the game with runners on base. You want your best hitters up later in the game in the theoretically higher leverage situations. When Manny was stroking doubles last year, he made sense. But, he has been pretty dreadful at the plate so moving him down was the right move. That leaves Pearce and Cruz, and while we here at Orioles Nation love Steve “SMFP” Pearce, he is a nice bench piece not a two hole hitter. Although, I like Buck thinking outside of his box putting Pearce in left, he is definitely a better fielder than Cruz. If it were up to me, I’d bat Cruz second, Davis third, and Jones fourth. But really, the difference between 2 and 3 is nothing to care about, lineup construction has never been proven to have a great affect on a teams win-loss record. Some theorize that the optimal game lineup can maybe lead to about one more win over the course the season and I don’t think Buck’s current lineup is that far from optimal.

2014 Orioles Best Tools List http://orioles-nation.com/2014/01/06/2014-orioles-best-tools-list/ http://orioles-nation.com/2014/01/06/2014-orioles-best-tools-list/#comments Mon, 06 Jan 2014 12:00:27 +0000 http://orioles-nation.com/?p=14425 A look at the best tools within the Orioles' farm system.

The post 2014 Orioles Best Tools List appeared first on Orioles-Nation.

]]>
2013 was another interesting year, with a lot of exciting things happening down on the farm. In case you missed it, the Aberdeen Ironbirds finally made the playoffs. The Norfolk Tides decided that they wanted to challenge the 2012 roster for “most players used”.  Bowie and Frederick had some terrific pitching. We had a knuckleball fad, which may still be a thing (A good thing at that! Please re-sign Eddie Gamboa). I was even able to witness the debut of Hunter Harvey, and it was one of the more enjoyable nights I have experienced at a baseball game.

Now, it is time to put the 2013 season behind us and prepare for 2014. Below is my grading scale of the Orioles’ minor league system as of the final game in 2013. Some of the information can be accredited to scouts, while some of it is from my own eyes. I tried to blend both together as much as possible. This list is going to change a ton over the next few months. It is simply inevitable as players grow and train over the course of an off-season. It should also be noted that some of the recently drafted players have not been able to establish enough of a track record for any evaluation in the minors. With that, let us move onto the 2014 Orioles Best Tools List.

The Orioles do not have a deep farm system. They certainly have some talent, but there is a noticeable drop-off in tools and skill-level after the first wave of “top prospects”. However, I truly believe that with the right development, the Orioles do have a few gems that nobody is talking about. I have only heard good things about Brian Graham and his group, so that is a step in the right direction. There is a long ways to go before the Orioles’ farm system is truly improved, but they have to start somewhere.

The 20-80 scouting scale was used to help evaluate and list the players’ tools. If you are not familiar with the grading system, here is a summary of the scale:

20: Very Poor

30: Well-Below Average

40: Below Average

45Fringe-Average

50: Average

55Solid-Average

60Plus

70Plus-Plus

80: Top-Tier

Pitching

Fastball Kevin Gausman 70/75 Plus fastball that sits 96-98 mph and can touch 100mph. Explosive velocity, sharp downward plane, plus movement on both 2S and 4S.
Dylan Bundy 70/70 One of the easier fastballs you will see. Explosive, yet smooth. Able to routinely locate it and is commanded plus around 93-96 mph.
Hunter Harvey 50/65 93-96 mph with late movement. In 2013, fell to 91-94 mph after first two innings. Needs to work on control and stamina to improve this pitch.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Jacob Bray, Parker Bridwell, Oliver Drake

Changeup Kevin Gausman 65/70 Solid circle change with late hand side action and depth away. Already a plus pitch with some room to become a true plus-plus pitch.
Dylan Bundy 60/65 Plus fade and works extremely well off his fastball. “pulls the string” and provides a ton of deception.
Zach Davies 55/60 Solid-average fade against righties, plus fade against lefties. Mixes well with fastball, spots well. Seems to have confidence to throw change on any count. Problem comes from his fastball not having much difference in velocity.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Tim Berry, Eduardo Rodriguez

Curveball Hunter Harvey 60/70  79-82 mph with tilt, sharp bite, and good depth. Potential to be a plus-plus pitch, ability to snap into the dirt and still fool batters. Telegraphs the pitch at times, noticeable in his release and the distance he strides on his delivery. Even so, hitters still have trouble making solid contact on it.
Dylan Bundy 50/60 Crisp 12-6 offering that has a tight rotation. Lacks command at times, and will leave up in the zone.
Alexander Santana 50/60  11-5 spin and good, sharp tilt. Tight spin and commanded well. Occasionally will leave up in zone but was able to get away with it at Aberdeen.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Tim Berry, Daniel Ayers, Jason Gurka, Branden Kline, Parker Bridwell

Slider Eduardo Rodriguez 50/60 Sharp, biting slider that sits 82-86 mph. Dips hard, has potential for some refinement. Not always a strikeout pitch, but able to get hitters to roll over on it more often than not.
Mike Wright 50/60 Hard, dipping slider with solid tilt. Sits primarily mid-80′s and can miss bats at times.
Kevin Gausman 45/60 Inconsistent at this point, but sharp break and plus bite is evident and a little refinement will go a long way to make this a plus pitch.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Stephen Tarpley, Lex Rutledge, Michael BelfioreJacob Bray, Oliver Drake

Command Zach Davies 60/65 Ability to consistently mix and match his arsenal. Ability to throw all four pitches in the zone at all times. High pitchability.
Tyler Wilson 50/60 Plus fastball command, change has good deception which plays up the command. Power curve lags behind both and he will have trouble locating it at times.
Mitch Horacek 50/60 Stuff is not great, so Horacek makes up for it with the ability to locate in the zone. Had practically all of the NYPL chasing his pitches.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Kevin Gausman, Eduardo Rodriguez, Steven Brault, Dylan Bundy

Control Dylan Bundy 60/65 Ability to throw all of his pitches for strikes at any given time. Comes from a clean and easy delivery that he is able to consistently repeat.
Zach Davies 50/60 Davies has consistently mentioned that he feels comfortable throwing all four pitches for strikes at any given time. I can attest to this from watching him in 2013.
Mitch Horacek 45/55 Ability to throw his three-pitch arsenal for strikes and keep hitters on their toes.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Ashur Tolliver, Trent Howard, Mark Blackmar

Hitting:

Contact Chance Sisco 45/60 Solid-average bat speed, quick hands, good extension. Tore up competition in GCL from all reports, Delmarva will be first true test.
Christian Walker 50/60 Sweet swing, good bat path through the zone. Good extension.
Adrian Marin 50/55 Short, compact swing with a small load. Not much extension but ability to put barrel on the ball. Average bat speed.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Josh HartJohnny RuettigerMike Yastrzemski

Eye/ Plate Discipline Michael Ohlman 50/55 Solid-average plate discipline along with an improving approach. Scouts have noted that the decision making at the plate has improved over the past two years.
Johnny Ruettiger 50/55 Advanced approach, good plate awareness, cognizant of the count and game scenario.
Christian Walker 50/55 Solid “college eye”. Adept at laying off junk in the dirt, although will occasionally chase a fastball at the eyes.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Wynston Sawyer, Torsten Boss, Trey Mancini

Power Jonathan Schoop 50/60 Lightning quick bat-speed + quick twitch hands allows for plus force in his swing. Powerful thrust, excellent pop off the bat. Swing has a mild tilt to it, allowing for him to drive the ball. Will only grow stronger as he continues to grow into his frame.
Hector Veloz 45/70 Solid-average raw power with potential for plus to plus-plus power. Could be one of the strongest players below Double-A. Thick frame, thick bottom half provides a terrific foundation to generate force in his swing-torque. Also has solid-average bat speed. He has hit the scoreboard in center field at Ripken Stadium (during a game) Could benefit from improved conditioning. Questions whether his poor contact and discipline will ever truly allow him to put his power to use.
Conor Bierfeldt 50/60 Solid-average raw power is most likely, with above-average being a possibility. Displays a solid gap-to-gap stroke to go along with a slight uppercut swing and average bat speed. Frame is indicative for a corner OF.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Aaron Baker, Randolph Gassaway, Caleb Joseph, Trey Mancini, Michael Ohlman

Defense:

Defensive Catcher Brian Ward 70 Plus arm and tremendous blocking skills. Pop time consistently 1.79 – 1.82, with best recorded at 1.71. Calls a strong game and has plus footwork.
Austin Wynns 60 Calls a good game, displayed strong footwork behind the plate, above average blocking skills, solid-average arm.
Tanner Murphy 55 Above-average arm strength, strong receiver that has solid footwork. Coming back from a UCL tear, so remains to be seen how his skills were affected.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Brett Frantini

Defensive Infielder Adrian Marin 55 Good defender with arm strength, soft hands and moderate range. Still refining footwork but has the ability to stick at shortstop or become a plus defender at second base.
Jonathan Schoop 50 Size and frame are concerns for the future, but average to solid-average across the board right now in terms of hands, range and footwork. Arm is plus. Versatility (2B, 3B, SS) is added plus.
Federico Castagnini 50 Sound defensively. Good, soft hands and glove. Moved off Shortstop already. Plays a solid defense at third base, but profiles better at second base. Solid utility option that can play anywhere in a pinch.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Jeff Kemp, Torsten Boss

Defensive Outfielder Josh Hart 65 Plus defensive ability. Plus speed, agility. Makes terrific reads and displays excellent instincts on tracking fly balls. Average arm.
Gregory Lorenzo 60 Above-average arm strength, plus speed, quick bursts. Average reads, but able to adjust due to athleticism.
Glynn Davis 60 Plus to plus-plus speed. Defense is above-average, but needs to take better routes and rely less on speed and athleticism in the outfield.

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Anthony Vega, Brenden WebbMike Yastrzemski

 Athleticism:

Athlete Josh Hart 65
Glynn Davis 65
Gregory Lorenzo 60

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Mike Yastrzemski, Anthony Vega, Adrian Marin

Baserunner Glynn Davis 60
Gregory Lorenzo 60
Josh Hart 50

Honorable Mention/On the Rise: Johnny Ruettiger, Adrian Marin, Mike Yastrzemski

The post 2012 Delmarva Shorebirds Season Review appeared first on Orioles-Nation.

In a season that started off filled with hope, the results for 2012 on the Shore (52-86) can only be described as disappointing. No roster in the O’s organization started the season with more “must see” prospects than the Shorebirds, but after a quick start, promotions, poor defense, and a lack of timely hitting  led to a long season for fans.

A season that began with Dylan Bundy, Tim Berry and Bridwell anchoring the rotation along with Johnny RuettigerGlynn Davis, Nick Delmonico and Jason Esposito in the field; ended with Steel Russell, Juan Guzman and Alex Schmarzo. Nothing against those players, but it just shows the revolving door Delmarva was.

Below is a recap of some of the names and faces that came through the Shore this season. So everyone is aware I am a season ticket holder and attend about 55-60 games a season, so many of these players I saw about 50% of the total games they played. I could not fit everyone on here, but I would welcome any discussion on the players not listed on the forums.

Parker BridwellParker Bridwell

I was hoping Parker would get a late season promotion to Frederick to give him a glimpse into next season. Statistically, you won’t see much improvement from month to month and second half over first half, but trust me, I saw a lot of change in him during the final weeks of the season. All season I spoke about the fact Parker was not challenging hitters, which he began to do with much success. The fastball and sinker are both heavy pitches with lots of movement. I would like to see the organization give him a little more freedom and input on pitch sequence in Frederick next year. Potential and tools are still there.

Matt Taylor

Matt moved from the pen to the starter roll in late May. I think his calling is more in the pen as his delivery has too much shoulder action for long term starter status. He is effective when he keeps the ball down in the zone, but doesn’t do that enough. He was shut down late season but should be healthy in time for camp.

Zach Davies

If you are in Frederick with Zach next season, please buy him a meal. Listed at 6′ and 150 lbs, I think he must have had about 20lb shoes when these numbers were taken. Focus for him is on the off speed stuff, and he works it very well. Another arm that moved from the pen to the rotation in May. The delivery is smooth and with the right weight program, could remain a starter in the future.

Jesse Beal

It is hard to believe Jesse has been in the organization since 2008. He is still only 22, and his size and delivery are intimidating from 60 ft away. Classic pitching style who settled in well at the end of the season with a 20/3 K/BB ratio in his last 10 appearances. A healthy off season should see him in the Frederick pen next year.

Alex Schmarzo

This is my diamond in the rough player. Alex is 23 so he needs to progress quickly, but as a 48th round pick, little was expected here. Over his last six outings covering 11.2 IP, he allowed 3 ER with 2 BB and 14K. Alex has some of the oddest habits both entering the game and while on the mound, but it makes him fun to watch.

Sammie Starr

One of the few bright spots this season, Sammie moved on to play the final few games of the season in Frederick and one in Norfolk. At 24, Starr is in no way a prospect, but if you are a true fan of the guys that go out and give everything everyday, this is the player for you. Hard nose defense and never saw a ball he didn’t think he could get to, he plays bigger than his 5’8″ frame.

Connor Narron

Son of Jerry Narron, Connor showed exceptional flashes this year. Connor hit 10 HR over 119 games, with half of them coming in a 30 game stretch in which he hit .330. He is still a player without a position as this club was loaded with both SS and 3B type players. Also turning 21 off season, the O’s have a lot of options with him for 2013 as they could allow him to repeat Low A but with a position or continue to use him as a super utility player (ala Buck Britton) at Frederick.

Wynston Sawyer

Hard to imagine taking a second look at someone that hits .221 for the season with no power, but Wyston made great strides once Gabriel Lino was traded and he received more regular playing time. Struggling to hit just .169 prior to the AS break, Sawyer hit .264 after, and raised his OPS more than .200. He will turn 21 during the off season, and advancing his skills at handling duties behind the plate are the next key for him.

Michael Ohlman

Michael Ohlman orioles

I’m planning on doing a separate full story on Michael in the next couple weeks, because his story needs to be told. If the O’s gave a comeback MiLB player award, he would have been a unanimous selection this year. After hitting just .224 last season, Michael came back from an off season injury and 50 game suspension to appear in 51 games on the Shore hitting .304 with an OBP of .400. Additionally, Michael, who had struggled behind the plate in 2011, improved his handling of pitchers and in limited appearances, threw out 38% of runners. I had talked after last season of the need to move him to another position (LF or 1B) and hope the bat continued to develop. Now I see him as the C in Frederick next season.

# Name Pos. Comments
1 Dylan Bundy RHP 5 plus-plus to plus pitch mix, stars lining up make him once in a generation type.
2 Manny Machado SS Plus contact with plus power, another up the middle anchor in the making.
3 Kevin Gausman RHP Electric stuff and iffy command, just a bit of improvement could vault his long-term value.
4 Jonathan Schoop 2B Plus power, maybe plus-plus down the line, slightly above average contact, RF maybe in his future.
5 Nick Delmonico INF Bat speed is back, contact and power tied to game, defense is a question mark.
6 Parker Bridwell RHP Grew a little more than 2 inches, starting to control himself in the second half, pure No. 2 potential, finding confidence again.
7 L.J. Hoes OF Power is below average, contact is above average and not quite plus (bat and approach to do so though), good defender, home is LF.
8 Mike Wright RHP Power pitcher with improved CH, looks more No. 2- 3 than any other role, delivery a slight concern.
9 Bobby Bundy RHP Injury tied 100% to command, still looks to be a No. 3 to No. 5 in my eyes.
10 Branden Kline RHP Great 1-2 punch, delivery tweaks and third pitch dictate role, solid arm speed.
11 Eduardo Rodriguez LHP Looks more BOR type lefty, good mix, looks better against LH batters and worth monitoring.
12 Glynn Davis OF Speed to burn, violent approach causes concern for contact, but gap power certainly feasible.
13 Jason Esposito 3B Having a rough go, but picks up LH pitching very easily, game shows glimpses.
14 Clayton Schrader RHP Command is always a concern, but electric arm still has massive potential.
15 Johnny Ruettiger OF Slightly above average contact, gap power potential, sound OF skills, versatile leadoff ability.
16 Lex Rutledge LHP Power LHPs never grows on trees, role is in flux with tweaks made to mechanics an emphasis this winter.
17 Trent Mummey OF Gap power bat, surprising pop when healthy, quality defense and can stick in CF.
18 Zach Davies RHP Ability to display 4 quality offerings, any size and strength could vault him into type 10 and solidify BOR ability.
19 Roderick Bernadina OF Has never seen a pitch he did not like, nor could not hit, bat speed and tools are enticing.
20 Dan Klein RHP Arm injuries derailed very promising arm.  If he comes back strong, quickly developing back of bullpen arm.
21 Adrian Marin SS Blend of bat (more contact driven), glove, and speed all very enticing, good all around ball player worth tracking.
22 Miguel Chalas RHP Power pitcher, mechanics have improved, role still a toss up to me, love bulldog approach and pounds it inside.
23 Tyler Wilson RHP Change up has made some progress, shows the drop action for high GB type pitcher, maybe BOR potential.
24 Torsten Boss UTIL World of tools, more contact than power bat, he could vault system in a hurry, true test is high A and AA.
25 Tim Berry LHP Flashes some skill with the ability to pull on a string, decent natural movement, needs to improve deception, very promising.
26 Connor Narron INF Sky is the limit with his baseball IQ, strike zone judgement, approach to game is improving, bat tool is something to monitor.
27 Juan Guzman RHP Electric arm that I have heard from scouts touched 95 mph, spin on curve has improved, very intriguing dark horse worth watching.
28 Devin Jones RHP Power arm with one of the best sliders in system.  CH and 2S have found a home in his arsenal, command improving, starter future.
29 Matt Taylor RHP Command of arsenal is close to plus, little too good at times.  Looks more back of bullpen arm, shows great deal of promise.
30 Christian Walker 1B Polished contact hitter, more gap power than pure power bat, solid defense at 1B.

# Name Pos. Comments
1 Dylan Bundy RHP Plus command and a handful of plus pitches; likely TOR type starter.
2 Manny Machado SS Stud shortstop with 4 above-average to plus tools. Should stick at SS.
3 Kevin Gausman RHP College sophomore with lots of potential; some projection left, too.
4 Jonathan Schoop 2B Curaçao native has world class bat speed. Looks to be bat-minded 2B.
5 Nick Delmonico IF Has played well in the SAL; still needs to find a position.
6 L.J. Hoes OF Outstanding contact hitter; likely limited to LF going forward.
7 Eduardo Rodriguez LHP Possible #3 starter; good pitchability and improving changeup.
8 Bobby Bundy RHP Injuries plagued him in 2012; looking to be ready for start of 2013.
9 Branden Kline RHP Will be tried as SP after pitching out of pen in college; arsenal to do so.
10 Parker Bridwell RHP Intriguing arsenal; needs to trust his stuff a bit more.
11 Mike Wright RHP Sinker could make him a back-end starter, but still needs changeup.
12 Clayton Schrader RHP Power righty has struggled at AA; still has intriguing power arsenal.
13 Glynn Davis OF Plus speed and solid bat speed; has trouble with off-speed stuff.
14 Tim Berry LHP 21 and missing bats in the CAR League; changeup has come along well.
15 Zach Davies RHP Four pitches, all at least average; limited projection holds him back.
16 Lex Rutledge LHP Power LHP who may tested as starter; fits well in ‘pen if he struggles as SP.
17 Adrian Marin SS Nice package of tools; above-average speed and bat speed.
18 Christian Walker 1B Patient 1B who faced good college competition; needs to show more power.
19 Jason Esposito 3B Known for defense, but has struggled on routine plays this year.
20 Roderick Bernadina OF Toolsy OF with a violent swing; strong arm and above-average speed.
21 Miguel Chalas RHP Small frame might force move to bullpen; power stuff would play well in relief.
22 Johnny Ruettiger OF Gets on base, hits for average, has above-avg speed; 4th OF or slightly more.
23 Mike Belfiore LHP Reliever has come on strong since coming to O’s; could pitch in majors in ’13.
24 Juan Guzman RHP Dominican RHP has two potential above-avg. pitches; added weight would help.
25 Devin Jones RHP Success in bullpen forced O’s to try him as SP; plus slider is best pitch.
26 Jaime Esquivel RHP Curveball is a true weapon; currently injured while playing for Aberdeen.
27 Trent Mummey OF Performs well when on the field but plagued by injuries; can’t catch a break.
28 Tyler Townsend 1B Hits when on field but struggles to stay healthy; 2013 very crucial year.
29 Connor Narron OF Still has some potential with the bat; move off 3B hurts value.
30 Brenden Webb OF + arm strength; above-avg. power potential but needs to make more contact.

2 Manny Machado SS Age 20 at AA and holding his ground. I love his bat and think the defense is plenty fine to stick at SS. Top 5 prospect in baseball.
3 Kevin Gausman RHP Workhorse from LSU who has pitched in big games already. Mid 90s fastball and plenty of potential here. Bundy and Gausman could be a big 1-2 punch down the road.
4 Jonathan Schoop 2B Raw prospect with plenty of growth left. Shows flashes of power, and will impress with lightning bat speed. Struggles against good secondaries and defense is work in progress still.
5 Nick Delmonico IF Solid line-drive hitter who is above average in all hitting categories. Power potential is main question, and still searching for a position. Might be a corner OF down the road.
6 L.J. Hoes OF Prototypical contact batter. Minimal power due to short and compact load, but could be solid regular at MLB level.
7 Eduardo Rodriguez LHP Sneaky prospect who has steadily climbed way through system. 90-92 mph fastball, Been dominant at times for Delmarva.
8 Branden Kline RHP Potential to start but could be RP down road. Has a strong fastball at 91-95 and nice curve.
9 Parker Bridwell LHP Uber talent who has struggled in 2012. The overall package is unworldly good, but he is very raw. Talent alone keeps me intrigued.
10 Mike Wright RHP Has innings eater mold looked for in pitchers. Has found groove in AA after dominating A+.
11 Adrian Marin SS Speedy and raw athlete who has exciting talents for a SS. Quick bat and plenty of potential.
12 Bobby Bundy RHP I’m writing off 2012. Has way too much talent and something was just wrong. 2013 rebound on way.
13 Christian Walker 1B Big-time college bat who gets on base. Power is main concern; Needs to move up and face better competition.
14 Zach Davies RHP Undersized and not a huge ceiling. Knows how to pitch and just has that “it” factor.
15 Trent Mummey CF Has huge talent if healthy. All-around game of power, speed, arm, range and base-running. Health issues huge.
16 Clayton Schrader RHP Wild and powerful bullpen arm. Racks up K and BB but is so gifted that makes one wonder the potential.
17 Glynn Davis CF Fastest player in system. Speed is unreal. Potential to be plus defensive CF. Bat needs works, especially on breaking pitches.
18 Miguel Chalas RHP Big power righty who has been up-and-down in rotation. A move to pen would rocket him through system.
19 Tim Berry LHP Projectable lefty has been pitching well in 2012. Missing bats and showing nice fastball and curve.
20 Johnny Ruettiger OF Quick and smart player. Complete gamer who won’t wow you but shows above average bat speed and plate discipline.
21 Jason Esposito 3B Having a rough year, but not every prospect has same timeline. Needs another year before any huge conclusions can be made.
22 Michael Belfiore LHP A big get in the Josh Bell trade, has power stuff and could be a viable piece in O’s bullpen as early as 2013.
23 Roderick Bernadina OF Super raw and gifted athlete. Plus bat speed but has violent swing. Very similar to cousin Roger.
24 Torsten Boss UTIL Jack of all trades. Can play 3B/OF/2B, you name it. Elongated swing could hurt down road. Needs to be moved above NYPL.
25 Dan Klein RHP Has talent to be late inning RP. Health and lost 2012 really hurt him.
26 Lex Rutledge LHP Power lefty with mid 90s fastball and nasty curve. Could be a late inning arm down the road if he can cut down walks.
27 Matt Price RHP Projectable bullpen arm who could move quick through system. Throws 90-93 in relief, possible 6-7th inning guy.
28 Brenden Webb RF Repeating A-ball, but has shown the true skills he has. Cannon arm, high OBP, speed, power. Ks and contact big concern.
29 Juan Guzman RHP A little old for NYPL, but absolutely dominated there before promotion. Power pitcher who could move to pen down road.
30 Devin Jones RHP Nice arsenal with slider, fastball and change up. 2S fastball has really come on as of late.
