The Norfolk Tides finished the season in last place in the South Division with a 56-87 record.

Position Prospects

Top Prospect – The Tides posted a relatively bland group of prospects, but Ryan Adams was the best of the bunch. He spent a large part of the season with Norfolk before getting 96 PA in the majors. He still showed the gap power he displayed in 2010 and a solid OBP, but his defense is really holding him back from becoming anything more than a bench player.

Biggest Surprise – Kyle Hudson began the season with the Keys, finished with the Tides and really came on when he moved to Norfolk. He displayed phenomenal patience and turned in a number of multi-hit games. His stellar play in AAA earned him a big league promotion when the rosters expanded.

Biggest Disappointment – None

Pitching Prospects

Top Prospect - This isn’t meant to be a knock on Steve Johnson, but when he’s a minor league team’s top prospect, you know there’s a problem. Johnson’s a fly ball pitcher with a 90-94 mph fastball and a 79-81 mph late breaking curveball. His time as a starter is likely coming to an end, but he could be a useful middle reliever going forward.
