Orioles vs. Mariners Series Look-Ahead

As far as your MLB picks go, the Baltimore Orioles have been one of the best teams in the business to roll with. They’re hanging around in the AL East and continue to grind out victories day after day.

Right now Baltimore stands at 57-51 for the season, having won five of their last seven, including two of three on the road against both the New York Yankees and Tampa Bay Rays.

That sets up the Orioles nicely for their upcoming 10-game home stand in which they’ll face Seattle, Kansas City and Boston. This is a great chance for Baltimore to pick up even more wins.

On Monday we’ve got Chris Tillman pitching against Seattle’s solid lefty Jason Vargas.

Tillman has been a pleasant surprise this season, winning four of his five starts since getting called up from the minors. He’s 4-1 with a 2.70 ERA and 1.31 WHIP on the year and gave up only two runs in his sole home start.

Next we’ve got Zach Britton versus Blake Beavan, two extremely young pitchers trying to make their mark in the bigs.

It’s been a really rough season for Britton so far, who gave up seven hits and seven runs against the Yankees in his latest start. He may have a little more luck against the Orioles, but he hasn’t done very much to instill confidence in Orioles fans. The only saving grace is Beavan (5.06 ERA) has gotten beaten up at times this season as well.

To wrap up the series it’s Tommy Hunter and Kevin Millwood on the mound for their respective ballclubs.

This is a scary matchup for the Orioles considering Hunter is 4-7 with a 5.55 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 17 starts this season. Millwood is much more experienced and has been better on the road (3.74 ERA as opposed to 4.33 at home) up until this point.
