Orioles Recall Hunter, Select Contract of Phillips, DFA Berken

 

The Orioles today announced that they have recalled RHP Tommy Hunter from Double-A Bowie and selected the contract of LHP Zach Phillips from Triple-A Norfolk. To make room for Phillips, the Orioles designated RHP Jason Berken for assignment.

Hunter has gone 4-8 with a 5.95 ERA (121.0IP, 80ER) in 23 games (20 starts) over four stints with the Orioles this season. In five minor league outings (four starts) between Norfolk and Double-A Bowie, Hunter was 3-1 with a 3.07 ERA (29.1IP, 10ER).

In 42 games for Norfolk, Phillips was 2-2 with a 3.17 ERA (54.0IP, 19ER). In his only outing for the Orioles, May 8 against Texas, he allowed two earned runs on three hits and two walks. In 11 major league games, Phillips has a pitched to a 3.12 ERA (8.2IP, 3ER). Phillips will wear number 58.

Berken appeared in one game for the Orioles this year, May 7 against Texas, and allowed seven runs (two earned) in one inning of work.
