Orioles Interested In SP Paul Maholm

The Orioles have interest in LHP Paul Maholm, according to Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports. The other clubs in on Maholm are reportedly the Mariners, Red Sox, and Cubs. Maholm’s former club, the Pirates, have also kept in touch with him but are unlikely to resign him, according to Dejan Kovacevic of the Pittsburgh Tribune.

Maholm, 29, was a 1st round pick (2003) of the Pittsburgh Pirates. Through seven seasons with the Pirates, he has compiled a 53-73 record with a 4.36 ERA, 96 ERA+, 1.424 WHIP, 5.5 K/9, and a 3.0 BB/9. In 2011 posted a 6-14 record in 162.1 innings with a 3.66 ERA, 105 ERA+. 1.294 WHIP, 5.4 K/9, and a 2.8 BB/9.

Maholm would provide the Orioles with another reliable arm in the rotation. He could presumably be a better option than Joe Saunders, and would come at a lesser price than Edwin Jackson.
