Manny Machado‘s MLB debut was a sliver of light in an otherwise dark day for the Orioles, who dropped the opener against the Royals 8-2. The loss snapped a 5 game win streak.
Machado’s first at-bat was in the 2nd inning with 2 on and 2 out. He hit a weak bouncer to short and the inning was over. In his second at-bat, Machado ripped one into the gap between center and right field. It rolled to the wall and Machado showed off his speed and turned his first major league hit into a triple. Nick Markakis then scored Machado on a line-drive sac fly to left field.
Machado was pleased to get the first hit off his shoulder but when asked if it gave him confidence to succeed at this level he replied “I wouldn’t say succeed, yet,” he told MLB.com’s Brittany Ghiroli.
“I’ve still got a long year and a lot more at-bats to go. But for the first night, I think it went great,” Machado said.
