Tim Berry Dazzles In Keys 8-2 Win

Keys Starter Sets Team High with 11-Strikeout Night

LHP Tim Berry struck out the first two men he faced on Wednesday evening and he did not look back. He would strike out 11 batters, setting a Keys 2012 season high in the process, as Frederick rolled to a series ending 8-2 win at Carolina.

Berry (4-4) had to wait to begin his dominant effort. The game was delayed one hour and 35 minutes due to rain. But once it began Berry was sharp. He bested his Frederick high eight strikeout effort from July 22nd at Winston-Salem and overcame teammate Tyler Wilson’s Keys season high ten strikeout effort at home against Carolina on July 12th.

The Keys grabbed the lead with the big inning in the third. C Joe Oliveira singled up the middle and then stole second base. With one down, he came around to score on SS Mike Rooney’s RBI-single to give Frederick a 1-0 lead. CF Johnny Ruettiger ripped a single up the middle and 2B Jerome Pena walked. That set the table for RF Brenden Webb.

With the bases loaded Webb continued his outstanding start in Frederick. He smoked a double off the center field wall emptying the bases and putting the Keys on top 4-0. Webb would later score on an error for the fifth run of the inning. He went 2-for-4 with three runs and three RBI’s in the win. Webb scored seven runs in the three-game series.

Leading 7-2 late, the Keys reached to their pen for RHP Matt Bischoff who worked two perfect innings to end the game. Bischoff struck out two batters. Keys pitchers fanned 13 hitters without walking one in the game.

Wilmington defeated Potomac 9-1 in an afternoon tilt so the Keys remain one game out in the Carolina League’s North heading home.

Frederick returns home for nine games in eight days Thursday, August 16th. It is Military Appreciation Night on the 16th as all active or retired military can get a $2 ticket with a valid military ID. For tickets contact the Keys at 301-815-9939 or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
