Doubledays Plate Six in the Seventh; IronBirds Fall, 9-5
The Aberdeen IronBirds started off a three game series against the Auburn Doubledays with a 9-5 loss last night after a brief lead in the fifth inning.
In the top of the first inning, Wes Schill of the Doubledays scores the first run of the game off a walk against RHP Juan Guzman.
The Birds take a short lived lead in the bottom of the fifth, pulling ahead to 4-1 starting with Anthony Vega’s second home run of the season against RHP Pedro Encarncacion. Roderick Bernadina brings in the third run for the IronBirds when Christian Walker singles on a fly ball to CF Wander Ramos. Walker scores the final run of the inning off a fly ball from Jerome Pena to RF Jordan Poole.
The Doubledays rally at the top of the seventh scoring six runs under relief pitcher Kenneth Wise. Mike McQuillan scores the first run on a ground ball from Shawn Pleffner. Tony Renda brings in the second run of the inning off a wild pitch from Kenneth Wise. IronBirds replace Wise with Bobby Wilkins after two wild pitches.
Wander Ramos advances to second off a throwing error by Wilkins, allowing Shawn Pleffner to score. With Jordan Poole batting, Estarlin Martinez scores off a wild pitch. Craig Manuel and Wander Ramose score off a fly ball from Jordan Poole to LF Anthony Vega.
In the bottom of the seventh, Tyler Townsend scores off a single from Christian Walker. The Doubledays get a quick three outs, bringing the score to 8-5.
Shawn Pleffner gets the final run for the Doubledays at the top of the eighth inning off a fly ball to CF Roderick Bernadina from Craig Manuel bringing the final score to 9-5.
The IronBirds play two more games against the Doubledays before starting a three game series at home against the Batavia Muckdogs.
