Eduardo Rodriguez allows one hit in five innings
Salisbury, Md. – The Delmarva Shorebirds (15-21) managed just two hits as the Lakewood BlueClaws (20-18) took game one of the series 8-0 on Monday night at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium. Lakewood starter Colin Kleven faced the minimum over a career long eight innings.
Lakewood scored two runs in the second inning on no hits to build a 2-0 lead. Maikel Franco and Brian Pointer drew walks to open the inning. They advanced on a balk called on Rodriguez. Josh Ludy chopped a grounder to short to score Franco. Pointer scored on a second balk of the inning.
The BlueClaws tallied runs in the seventh and eighth innings to build a 4-0 lead.
In the ninth inning, they put the game out of reach with four more runs.
The Shorebirds only two hits came in the second and seventh innings. Michael Ohlman singled to left in the second and Roderick Bernadina hit a check swing single in the seventh.
Kleven earned the win over eight full. He allowed two hits and no runs with six strikeouts and no walks.
Rodriguez was pinned with the loss over five innings. He allowed one hits.
David Baker allowed one unearned run out of the Shorebirds bullpen in two innings. Gene Escat and Ryan Palsha worked the final two innings.
The Shorebirds and BlueClaws play game two of the series on Tuesday night at 7:05pm. RHP Miguel Chalas is the scheduled starter for Delmarva.
