Renegades Surge Past IronBirds, 8-2

Hudson Valley Sweeps Two-Game Series in Aberdeen

ABERDEEN, MD- The Renegades took an early lead Sunday night and never looked back in their 8-2 win over the IronBirds. Four runs plated in the first and fifth innings gave the Renegades the sweep over a two-game series. A homer by 1B Christian Walker in the seventh was not enough to strike up an IronBirds’ comeback.

Facing LHP Cameron Coffey, the Renegades put up a four spot in the first inning. C Luke Maile slapped a sacrifice fly to right field advancing CF Joey Rickard home. SS Ryan Dunn homered on a fly ball to left field plating three runs. Dunn’s first professional home run gave the Renegades an early four-run lead.

Aberdeen scored their first run off of RHP Jesse Hahn in the second inning. Walker led off with a line drive single to left field. With men on two corners, LF Will Howard grounded into a 4-6-3 double play to send Walker home.

Following a pair of scoreless innings, Hudson Valley increased their lead in the fifth. Maile doubled off a line drive to left field; plating two runs. 2B Thomas Coyle advanced home following a fielding error by 2B Ryan Adams. RF Charles Epperson’s RBI single to center field capped off the scoring for the inning.

Leading off in the bottom of the seventh Walker jumped on RHP Rob Finneran, launching a home run single over the left field wall. Walker’s second homer of the season proved to be the final run of the night.

On the hill, RHP Eduar Quinonez (3-1) notched the win for the Renegades. . LHP Cameron Coffey (1-5) picked up the loss

RHP Jason McCracken allowed no hits over two innings of work. INF Tom Winegardner closed the game with a perfect ninth inning, earning two strikeouts.

The IronBirds will start a two-game series Monday night in Brooklyn. RHP Sebastian Vader (0-4, 6.92) will get the ball for Aberdeen while the Cyclones will turn to RHP Julian Hilario (0-2, 3.75). First pitch from MCU Park is set for 7:00 p.m. Coverage on the IronBirds Radio Network will begin at 6:45 p.m.
