Neshek Named IL Pitcher Of The Week

The International League announced today that Indianapolis outfielder Starling Marte and Norfolk closer Pat Neshek have been named the League’s Batter and Pitcher of the Week for the period from June 25-July 1. Marte joins two-time Pitcher of the Week Justin Wilson as the only Indians to bring home an IL weekly award this season, while Neshek is the first member of the Tides to be so honored in 2012.

Right-handed reliever Pat Neshek appeared in three games this week for the Tides, tossing a total of 4.2 perfect innings with eight strikeouts and three saves. Neshek threw more than 1.0 inning in all three outings. On Monday at Toledo, Neshek closed the door on the last 1.2 innings of the game, striking out two. Wednesday he saved a 3-1 game at Columbus by recording the final four outs, three of them by punchout. Back home Saturday against Syracuse, Neshek tossed 1.2 innings, collecting three more strikeouts.  Neshek has now converted six straight save opportunities dating back to June 14. He has not surrendered a run since May 29.

31-year-old Pat Neshek has pitched professionally since 2002. He spent last season in the San Diego organization after having played his entire career up to that point in the Minnesota system. Neshek signed with Baltimore this past January as a free agent. Neshek is a native of Madison, Wisconsin.
