Mudcats Overwhelm Frederick

Two Early Leads Do Not Hold Up in 9-5 Loss

Twice the Keys saw a multi-run lead escape from their grasp in the game’s early innings as Carolina had more gas in the tank defeating the Keys 9-5 at Five County Stadium on Monday night. With the loss, the Keys sink two games in back of Wilmington in the Carolina League’s North.

Frederick gained the early lead in the second inning. RF Brenden Webb walked to lead off the inning, stole second base and then scored with one out on a single to center field by LF Steve Bumbry. 3B Mike Mosby would then double off the wall in left field to score Bumbry and the Keys led 2-0.

After Carolina evened the game in the bottom of the second inning the Keys had the answer. Frederick plated three in the third inning. 1B Tyler Townsend singled up the middle to lead off the inning. Then with one out Webb worked another walk. C Allan de San Miguel then doubled home both runners to put the Keys atop 4-2. Two batters later, Mosby doubled home de San Miguel and Frederick led 3-2.

Carolina would score four runs in the fourth inning and three more in the fifth to grab control of the game. Keys starter Matt Bywater (0-2) allowed six runs in 3 and 1/3rd innings for the loss.

The series continues Tuesday, August 14th at 7:15 p.m. at Carolina with coverage beginning 20-minutes prior on 1450-AM The Source.
