Potential Inning Ending Double Play Not To Be in 4-3 Loss
In a pitching duel knotted in the eighth inning the Keys blinked first as SS Garabez Rosa misplayed a potential inning ending double play with the bases loaded and one out as the Keys fell in Myrtle Beach 4-3.
Tied at 1-apiece, Pelicans SS Hanser Alberto hit the ground ball to Rosa’s left. Rosa was in position but had the ball hit the edge of his glove and deaden underneath him as the lead run came home. DH Vinny DiFazio would later double in two more runs to push the Keys deficit to 4-1.
But Frederick battled back. The Keys got three doubles in the ninth inning from C Allan de San Miguel, CF Trent Mummey and 3B Mike Mosby to pull within 4-3. Mosby was left stranded at second base to end the game.
The Keys got another strong start from RHP Tyler Wilson who matched a season high going seven innings in the no decision. Frederick turned three double plays behind Wilson who did not walk a batter for a third consecutive start. The lone blemish was on a solo home run off the bat of DiFazio.
Frederick tied the game in the sixth inning as LF Steve Bumbry homered on a well struck line drive into the wind to left field. The home run landed in the left field bleachers.
The series concludes Sunday night, August 6th at 7:05 p.m. with LHP Trent Howard getting the call for the Keys. Coverage begins 20-minutes earlier on 1450-AM The Source.
