Frederick Overcomes Multiple Deficits, Then Hangs on for 5-4 Win

Keys C Allan De San Miguel registered three hits and drove home the lead run in the eighth inning as Frederick defeated Lynchburg 5-4 for their first series sweep of the 2012 season. The Keys overcame three one-run deficits in the victory.

Tied at 3-all in the eighth inning, RF Jeremy Nowak extended his hitting streak to eleven games with a leadoff single to center field. After a sacrifice bunt by 1B Mike Flacco moved the runner into scoring position, De San Miguel roped a double to the alley-way in eright-center field to score Nowak scoring with the lead run. A batter later, 2B Travis Adair singled home De San Miguel to give Frederick a 5-3 lead.

De San Miguel would exit though in the bottom of the eighth inning running full-speed into fencing just to the side of the backstop chasing a foul ball. C Joe Oliveira would enter in his place.

Lynchburg rallied to make it close against reliever with two outs in the ninth inning. 2B Emerson Landoni legged out an infield single and then scored on a double high off the left field wall by CF Mycal Jones. Walters would settle down and strike out SS Nick Ahmed swinging to put the wraps on his tenth save of the season.

Frederick got a career-high seven innings from RHP Devin Jones who picked up a win in a third consecutive start. Keys starters have pitched into the sixth inning in six straight games. The Keys remain within a game of both Wilmington and Potomac in the North Division.

The Keys now head to Myrtle Beach to open a three-game set beginning Friday, August 3rd at 7:05 p.m. Coverage begins 20-minutes earlier on 1450-AM The Source. LHP Tim Berry gets the starting nod in the series opener.
