Jason Berken, Miguel Socolovich Selected to AAA All-Star Game

The International League today announced the participants in the 2012 Triple-A All-Star Game, and Norfolk’s Jason Berken and Miguel Socolovich have been selected for the squad.

Through 14 starts, Jason Berken has gone 1-1 with a 2.32 ERA, a mark that ranks third in the International League. The 28-year-old right-hander has allowed three earned runs or less in each of his outings this season while holding opposing batters to a .248 average.

Berken was originally selected by the Orioles in the 6th round of the 2006 draft out of Clemson University.

Miguel Socolovich, 25, has been brilliant out of Norfolk’s bullpen this season, as he’s gone 3-0 with one save and a 1.59 ERA in 21 games. The right-hander has struck out 44 while walking 10 and yielding 25 hits in 39.2 innings as he’s held IL batters to a .179 average. He’s also yet to allow more than one earned run in an outing this season.

Socolovich was signed by Baltimore as a minor league free agent prior to the 2012 season. He was originally signed by Boston as a non-drafted free agent in 2004.

The 25th annual Triple-A All-Star Game will take place in Buffalo, NY on Wednesday, July 11. The contest pits the top players from the International League against those from the Pacific Coast League, and will be aired live on MLB Network.
