Birds’ further winning streak to five games
Cameron Coffey (1-5, 8.03) took the mound for the IronBirds in the Birds’ final game against the Jamestown Jammers.
Jammers’ CF Juancito Martinez scored in the top of the first inning on a sacrifice fly by 1B Viosergy Rosa. C Brian Dice scored in the top of the second inning for the Jammers, furthering the Jammer’s lead, 2-0.
IronBirds arrived in the second inning when RF Lucas Herbst and 1B Christian Walker scored off of a ground ball single by Will Howard. Later in the inning, CF Gregory Lorenzo grounded out and allowed Howard to score. IronBirds took the lead, 3-2.
Cameron Coffey exited Friday night’s game after five innings. He allowed two runs on five hits while striking out two and walking two.
In the top of the eighth inning with RHP Bobby Wilkins on the mound, Rosa homered to right field and tied the score, 3-3.
Going into the bottom of the tenth inning, Herbst scored off of a Creede Simpson triple to win the game, 4-3, for the Birds’. IronBirds are currently on a season high of five games and grabbed their second sweep of the season.
P Tom Winegardner (1-0) picked up the win for the IronBirds while P Nick Wittgren (0-1) took the loss for the Jammers.
The IronBirds continue their homestand and begin their series with the Vermont Lake Monsters on Saturday, July 28 at Ripken Stadium. RHP Sebastian Vader (1-4, 5.63) will take the mound for the Birds’ against Vermont RHP JC Menna (0-4, 3.78).
First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. with coverage on the IronBirds Radio Network beginning at 6:50 p.m.
