IronBirds Break Losing Streak in 7-4 Win

IronBirds began the game early in the first inning when CF Roderick Bernadina scored off of a fielder’s choice by 1B Christian Walker.

The IronBirds continued further their lead in the third inning when Walker hit a home run, his first of the season, into left field scoring Bernadina and SS Joel Hutter, bringing the IronBirds’ lead to 4-0.

After three scoreless innings, the Birds’ plated three more runs in the bottom of the fifth inning. Hutter and 2B Creede Simpson scored, bringing the lead to 5-0.

In the top of the sixth inning, 3B Patrick Wisdom hit a home run and sent SS Alex Mejia and 2B Patrick Wilson to home plate, bringing the score to 7-3.

In the top of the ninth inning, Muckdog Patrick Wisdom hit his second home run of the evening, bringing the score to 7-4.

RHP Juan Guzman (1-0) picked up the win for the IronBirds while RHP Ben O’Shea (1-1) took the loss for the Muckdogs. Guzman pitched 5.2 innings and had seven strike outs, a season high.

The IronBirds will begin a two-game series against the Staten Island Yankees (11-16) on Tuesday, July 17. IronBirds’ LHP Cameron Coffey (0-4, 9.19) will face Yankees RHP Corey Black (0-0,0.00). First pitch at Richmond County Bank Ballpark is set for 7:05 p.m. Coverage on the IronBirds Radio Network will begin at 6:50 p.m.
