Early Power Lifts Frederick

De San Miguel and Rosa Homer Early and Keys Win 10-7

Home runs from C Allan de San Miguel and SS Garabez Rosa sparked an early Frederick lead and the Keys held on to upend Potomac 10-7 in the series finale at Pfitzner Stadium. With the win the Keys held off the Nationals to remain in 2nd place in the Carolina League’s North.

The Keys got the bats going early against Nationals starter Robbie Ray. After two of the first three Keys batters walked, de San Miguel lined a 3-2 pitch over the left field wall to give Frederick a 3-0 lead. In the fourth inning on top by three, Rosa got into a fastball and nearly hit his face on the videoboard with a solo home to lift Frederick to a 5-1 advantage.

Frederick got 5 and 1/3rd strong innings from starter Tim Berry (5-5) who notched his fourth road win of the year.

The game got wild in the 8th. The Keys batted around sending ten men to the plate in a five-run inning to take a 10-2 lead. The critical play occurred with the bases loaded and one down and the infield in. DH Mike Flacco chopped a ball to shortstop but the throw to the plate was low and the error opened the door for a big inning.

Potomac then answered with five of their own in the bottom of the eighth inning. They came home with two outs as five Potomac batters kept the rally alive. The Nats five-run answer made it a 10-7 game. David Walters closed the door in the ninth inning to salvage the victory.

Frederick will have a day off before heading to Salem, VA for a four game series beginning Tuesday, August 28th at 7:00 p.m. RHP Tyler Wilson will be on the hill for the Keys.

The Keys return home with the inspiration for the film “Rudy”, Rudy Ruettiger at Harry Grove Stadium signing autographs Saturday, September 1st at 6:00 p.m. Fireworks follow the game against Carolina. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 301-815-9939 or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
