Comeback Win Ends Trip

Keys Return Home After Satisfying 5-4 Win in Salem

A road trip that saw the Keys playoff hopes come to a close ended on a positive note, as the Keys rallied for four seventh inning runs in a 5-4 win in Salem Friday night. The victory salvaged a game in the four-game series with the Red Sox.

Down 4-1 into the 7th inning, Salem reliever Scott Swinson hit SS Mike Rooney with a breaking ball to open the inning. He followed that with a walk of CF Glynn Davis. The runners were at second and third base with two outs when RF Jeremy Nowak provided a line drive two-RBI double near the right field line.

Swinson was lifted for Marco Duarte who pitched two scoreless innings against Frederick on Tuesday night. But Duarte was not sharp as he walked LF Steve Bumbry on four pitches and then allowed a two-RBI double to right-center field off the bat of 2B Travis Adair. The Keys had four two-out runs and a newfound 5-4 lead.

LHP Matt Bywater and RHP Ryan Berry combined to retire the final nine Salem batters putting a stam on the win. Berry picked up his 11th save in the effort.

Starter Devin Jones (7-1) got the win going six innings wile allowing four runs, three of which earned. He finishes the season with seven wins in his last eight starts.

The Keys return home with the inspiration for the film “Rudy”, Rudy Ruettiger at Harry Grove Stadium signing autographs Saturday, September 1st at 6:00 p.m. Fireworks follow the game against Carolina. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 301-815-9939 or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
