BlueClaws Blank Shorebirds 4-0 In Series Opener

Two more home games left in 2012

Salisbury, Md. – The Delmarva Shorebirds (22-41) managed just five hits as the Lakewood BlueClaws (32-31) took game one of the series 4-0 at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium on Tuesday night. The Shorebirds have dropped four games in a row.

Lakewood struck first in the second inning on a solo home run to left field by Josh Ludy, his first career home run.

Lakewood added two runs in the fifth inning to grab a 3-0 lead. Aaron Altherr hit a lead off double and scored on a Maikel Franco single. Willie Carmona singled home Franco later in the inning.

Shorebirds starter Zach Davies lasted 4.1 innings. He yielded six hits and three runs.

Lakewood starter Colin Kleven earned the win over 7.1 innings pitched. He allowed five hits and no runs.

The Shorebirds managed just one hit over the final four innings.

Eric Wooten entered for Zach Davies in the fifth inning and went the next 3.2 innings. He allowed four hits and one run with five strikeouts.

The BlueClaws tallied their final run in the seventh on a single by Brock Stassi.

Gene Escat pitched a scoreless ninth inning for the Shorebirds.

Lakewood relievers Luis Paulino and Zach Cooper combined to get the final five outs of the game.
