Defensive Spectrum

The defensive spectrum is the listing of the positions in baseball arranged from hardest to play (left) to easiest (right):

C-SS-2B-CF-3B-RF-LF-1B-DH

As a player gets older and his fielding ability decreases, he generally gets shifted to the right.

There is another popular version of the defensive spectrum that combines all the outfield spots into one category (OF) and second base, shortstop, and third base into another category (IF):

C-IF-OF-1B-DH
