Showalter gave a good answer yesterday when someone asked if his bullpen can keep pitching as much as it has without being fried. He noted that they aren't running two or three people into the ground; they have a lot of guys who are doing the job. Thus, the burden on each isn't that great.
He also keeps the pressure off of Johnson and Strop. I've seen past Orioles managers run the closer out there 3 consecutive games, give a day off ad then pitch them twice more.Showalter doesn't do that. I don't think he's used anybody as much as 3 days in a row yet.
The starters will need to go deeper into games if the Orioles are to stay in the hunt. No doubt about it. But this is a lot deeper bullpen then they've had in recent memory, and I think it can hold out longer with the heavy workload than those of the past.
