Orioles Promote Player of the Week Ronnie Welty To Bowie

Single-A Frederick Keys outfielder Ronnie Welty has been named the Carolina League Player of the Week for April 16-22. In four games, Welty went 11-for-18 with four doubles, a triple, a home run and nine RBIs. His slash line during those games sits at .611/.632 /1.111.

Welty is hitting .415/.446/.830 in 13 games this season. His 13 extra-base hits lead the league, and his .415 average and .830 slugging percentage rank second.

Update: Welty has been promoted to Double-A Bowie.

He was there last season and put up average at best numbers.
I think it was appropriate to move him there, and he could have probably even started there.

Welty is an interesting guy. Not exactly sure he is viewed with the top guys, but he could be a guy that opens eyes possibly.
Haven't seen him play in a while so I can't even say much about him. (Saw him in 2009 and 2010 with Delmarva and Frederick)

He's 24 this season so he'll need to have a big year at AA to be taken seriously.

1-3 with a triple is a nice way to start, especially considering the rest of the lineup didn't get many hits.
