Koji Uehara coming back to Baltimore?

Koji Uehara coming back to Baltimore?

PostPost #1 by OriolesRedskins28 » January 26th, 2012, 12:25 am

From mlbtraderumors.com
Rangers right-hander Koji Uehara enjoyed his time so much in Baltimore that he recommended the Orioles to the two free-agents the team signed out of the Japanese league, Tsuyoshi Wada and Wei-Yin Chen, according to a major-league source. A trade back to the O's is possible for Uehara, who rejected a deal to the Blue Jays this week.

Would you want him back? Personally Koji was one of my favorite Orioles last year. He was one of the most dominant relievers in all of baseball the first half of last year and whenever he came on in the 7th or 8th I felt very confident and comfortable that he would get the job done without allowing unnecessary base runners and by throwing strikes (the anti-kevin gregg). The only knocks against him would be his late season collapse in Texas (which I'm not too worried about), his age, and injury history. Assuming it wouldn't take too much to get him I would love to see Koji back and joining fellow Koreans Chen and Wada on the roster. I know this doesn't go along with the rebuilding for 2014 plan but it's nice to see a pitcher on the team who throws strikes and can be relied on in the late innings.

Here's an earlier string on Koji with additional comments.

I won't toss out trade ideas to reacquire him. However when healthy Koji Uehara was a very good player. If the team could get him back at a reasonable cost, what role? As a starting pitcher its an injury waiting to happen.Closer also seems iffy at best. I like the guy, but I would urge caution at this point.

It appears that Texas wants to move him and he already exercised his no trade clause to reject a trade to Toronto. If other teams believe he will be unhappy if they acquire him, they won't do so. We should be able to get him for almost nothing.

If the team is intent on acquiring another veteran pitcher then we could do a lot worse than Koji. I really think that the three Asian pitchers will be better as a group than as a duo.

I like Koji too and as a seventh or eighth inning specialist I think he would be dynamite. That said, I wouldn't offer a great deal to get him back in view of his injury history. It would have to be a AAAA type player at best. Just my two cents 8-)

Just going out on a limb here...Koji for Gregg (with some cash of course)?
At this point, the Rangers have a surplus of back end arms and they aren't sure which Koji they will get. The Orioles Kogi or the Rangers Playoff Koji. At least they would know they would get durability, quite a few stirkeouts, and an ERA under 4.30.

That's a good idea. I wish I would have thought of it.

I would want him back depending on the price. For me, he would be the set up guy in front of JJ.

I'd rather not them trade for him since he will probably just sign with the orioles after next year anyway :D
