O's sign Coco Crisp? (rumor/speculation)

Jon Heyman of CBS Sports is guessing Coco Crisp has been signed by the Orioles:

I am not in total understanding of this potential move either. The only way it would make sense to me is if they traded Jones.
Coco does not have the same value in LF, and I doubt they move AJ to LF this season for Coco.

I think Coco fits the type of player the Orioles are looking for at the time being though. He can leadoff if/when Roberts is hurt. Overall, it's going to be an interesting night if the Orioles did indeed sign him

It would be interesting to see them sign Crisp and then trade Jones if that did happen. I am pretty sure they are both friends (I have seen them chatting a ton before games when they play each other)

Maybe the Orioles and Braves were waiting on the Orioles to make a move?
Just reaching here, but The Orioles could have said that they need to find a replacement before making any trade of Jones.

I think Jurrjens is the starting point in any potential Jones deal. I know it's ALL just rumor, that seems to be the one constant.

Seems to be that way, but it seems silly for the O's to trade a guy like Jones for Jurrjens. Both Jones and Jurrjens have 2 years left before free agency so landing Jurrjens would almost negate the fact that they traded Jones, depending on what prospects come with him.

Finally some excitement this offseason, I would love to replace Jones with Crisp if they could get Jurjjens and a solid pitching prospect back from the Braves. Crisp would provide a major upgrade defensively, only thing is he's been injury prone in recent years hasn't he?

To me, trading for Jurrjens doesn't make any sense. Moving a high value asset like Jones HAS to be for players that can be part of the 2014 team. That's when we can expect some real help from the farm system.

Why not get AA and AAA pitchers from the braves? Isn't getting and developing/finishing that kind of talent the reason we just hired Rick Petersen?

I agree with you , but I think the Braves want to keep their big time pitching prospects. That's probably what is holding the trade back if anything.
