@danconnollysun Dan Connolly
Hearing #Orioles are "really working on" trying to sign Chen Wei-Yin 2. He's younger (26), throws harder than Wada. Will cost more $ & yrs

2 Japanese players in the rotation possibly?!?

Via Patrick Newman of Fangraphs and NPBtracker :
Chen features NPB’s top lefty power arsenal, primarily throwing fastballs and sliders, while mixing in occasional forkballs and the random big, loopy curve. His fastball reaches 95 mph or so, but usually sits around 90-92, while his slider breaks in on righthanded batters and sits in the 85-87 range. Chen has been letting his pitches get up in the zone much more this season, and is showing more of a flyball tendency than he did last year.

You do realize that I had him in the list of pitchers to target.

Yes I saw that.
But I was not expecting it after hearing we are nearing a deal with Wada.

Seems like he would be a better addition than Wada as well.

Two things.

First, What do you think he could maintain his fastball at pitching every fifth day. Japanese pitchers seem to lose a MPH or two when they don't pitch just once a week.

Second, if we sign both Japanese pitchers it might be worth bringing back Koji. It would allow all three of them to feel more comfortable.

Could a Chen Wei-Yin signing possibly set-up a Guthrie trade?

Well at least we'll be giving the beat writes a nice subplot to track over the course of the season, with all these Japanese pitchers throwing from the same mound.

Yin is Japanese? I thought he was Chinese or Vietnamese.
