Would you want Koji back?

Would you want Koji back?

PostPost #1 by Matt P » October 22nd, 2011, 9:56 am

It seems like a lot of people in the media seem to think that Koji really wants to come back to Baltimore. He's owed 4 million next season. What would we have to give up to get him back from Texas?

Havent been listening to much radio or local sports tv so havent heard, but this sounds like a media creation. Hard to believe a player would be playing in the playoffs/WS and would be talking about desire to return to a losing team. But as far as wanting him back, I'd take him. Any team needs stability in the pen, even losing ones. If young pitchers leave a game with the lead, it would be good for their morale if the bullpen didnt blow it for them every time.

I wonder how the 2M we sent the Rangers in that trade would work? If we traded for him would we get the money back or would they keep it and we would have to pay all of his 4M 2012 salary? Does anyone know for sure?

I'd rather spend the $4 million on 4 additional overslot signings in the next rule 4 draft.

I think bringing back Koji is an option, but realistically the team should be looking internal to fill bullpen roles. I mean Cole McCurry, Oliver Drake, Sean Gleason, and countless others can fill that slot at 400k.

I agree; however, I also accept that you can never have too much pitching. If we can get him back for 2M and not have to give up a legitimate prospect then I would go for it. Anything beyond that, pass.

I thought I read that next year's draft will have a hard slotting system?

The union will insist on some discretionary money for overslots and many of the teams want the same thing. I wouldn't be surprised if each team gets about 2M extra to play with each draft.

I would pass on Koji. Spend the money on starting pitching or an impact bat 8-)

Depends on the price. His contract is what, $4 million this year? I'd take it.

I would love to have him back (since it is not my money). I doubt the Orioles take him back though, especially at 4mil.
The Rangers and Orioles seem to have a strong relationship so I would not be very surprised if he somehow made his way back to the Orioles (especially 2 years from now)

If they could get him back as a salary dump , great. Otherwise, I would literally laugh if they traded prospects or even a ML guy for him. If would totally defeat the purpose of the Hunter/Davis deal

With how bad he was for Texas after they acquired him I highly doubt it would be anything more than a B-/C+ prospect for him.

The problem is, we only have like 5-6 B type of guys!
I would welcome him back though for the right deal
