Orioles interested in Floyd and Quentin

Orioles interested in Floyd and Quentin

Via Dan Connolly:
Multiple sources have confirmed #Orioles have interest in #WhiteSox starter Gavin Floyd and OF Carlos Quentin. But there may not be a match

As a MSJ alumni, I would love to have Floyd come back home in an Orioles uniform. However, I am not sure he is the type of pitcher the Orioles should be giving actual prospects away for.

Not a fan of Quentin either, he is basically a glorified DH, although his bat would be decent in our lineup.

John Danks has also been mentioned as a possibility. Orioles fans should do backflips if we can get either of these pitchers in a reasonable deal. I agree with you on Quentin as he really wouldn't add anything to this team.

We would have Floyd under control for only one year.

Given the choice of the 2 I'd prefer Danks.

He is going to cost significantly more. They are asking the world for him apparently.

I personally think I would pass on both. what is the point of the Orioles attempting to go into win-now mode?

They are doubtful on the front of Fielder, they are not going to sign Wilson or Buehrle, and they don't have a farm system strong enough to even withstand even one blow from a trade.
The Orioles need to figure out what direction they want to go in before they start doing anything. I don't think they really know it yet.

Floyd really isn't that great so I don't get all the buzz about adding him other than the fact he is a local guy. Yeah, he would likely be our #2 starter but that isn't saying much. I wouldn't want to give up Matusz, Britton, or Arrieta in a deal for him because all 3 are capable of being better than him next season and beyond. All three of them are under control for longer and are cheaper as well. They would be selling Matusz at an all time low coming off last season which isn't a great idea IMO.

I would like to add Floyd but I'm not sure he'd be worth giving up young pitcher for. It was rumored that the return would include Brad Bergesen. If so, I'd be fine. Floyd is a solid #3.

No problem giving up Bergesen or even Tillman for him.

I doubt the Sox would be fine with Bergesen though. Just a hunch. Probably would take a bit more

I would not deal Tillman. Seems silly to deal a guy like Tillman or Matusz when their value is at its lowest ever. You'd get almost nothing in return. Simply makes more sense to hold onto them.

What are you hearing would be added to Bergesen in a deal?

I just don't see why they would want Bergesen other than the fact he would be cheap.

I mentioned Tillman because I would deal him before dealing Arrieta, Britton, or Matusz and I imagine he has more value than Bergesen does.

It was just a rumor I saw on Twitter. I have no idea what would be added additionally.
