The Orioles announced today that they have added former Phillies general manager Lee Thomas as a special assistant to executive vice president Dan Duquette, and Fred Ferreiera as executive director of international recruiting.
Thomas won an Executive of the Year award for assembling the National League pennant - winning 1993 Phillies, and has over fifty years of professional baseball experience.
In addition to his tenure as GM of the Phillies he was employed by the St' Louis Cardinals in various positions from 1970 through 1988 during which the Cards won a World Series and two National League pennants, and five years as a special assistant for the Red Sox under current Oriole GM Dan Duquette. He has also worked as a scout for Milwaukee.
Ferreira's background includes international scouting for the Expos, Marlins,Yankees and Reds, and as a scout for the Angels. His scouting accomplishments include Vladimir Guerrero, Bernie Williams, Orlando Cabrera, Jose Vidro, Javier Vazquez and Roberto Kelly among the 57 players he has signed that have reached the majors.
The addition of Ferreira raises questions about a possible reassignment of David Stockstill.
