Grady Sizemore off the market

In case anyone wanted the O's to consider him, he's re-signing with the Indians.

The Indians and Grady Sizemore are about to complete an agreement to bring the center fielder back for 2012.

Based on published reports the Indians are going to pay him a modest (2M?) base and incentives that could reach the 9M salary of the option that the team declined. IMO that's a no brainer gamble and is EXACTLY the kind of move this team should be making to add talent. At the least you get a young solid producer for a year at a reasonable price. If he performs well you can trade him for a solid prospect or hold on to him and perhaps get an extra draft pick.

This team DESPERATELY needs to add young talent RIGHT BLINKEN NOW!!! Doing so under the new draft rules will require some serious thinking outside the box and require the spending of some money. After fourteen years don't the fans deserve the team's best efforts?

That's too bad. I was hoping the Orioles could get in on Grady. He would have provided a leadoff and power threat. If we did get him I wouldn't want him to play left full-time. Maybe occaisionally starts at all three OF positions but mainly be a DH. He struggles against lefties so we could have Andino DH vs lefties. He has a very good slash line vs lefties.

Would have been nice to sign him to a deal like that but there is no way he was ever going to consider coming to Baltimore.

He'll turn 30 during the season next year, so he's not exactly a "young talent", and he's one of the most injury prone players in baseball. I dont have a problem with passing on him. If they signed him and he spent most of the season on the DL everyone would roast the O's for taking up a roster spot with a injury prone veteran

That's why it's a gamble BUT IMO it's the type of gamble we need to take to bring talent here. If it works out and we trade him for a C+ or B- prospect in July then it was a very good gamble. This team is so short of talent at ALL ages that we need to think outside the box to ADD MORE TALENT NOW.
