I would be fine with him as the backup catcher.

All things being equal I would prefer Jason Varitek.

Maybe it is just a personal dislike for Varitek, but I think I would prefer Rodriguez. There stats were fairly similar last year, but Rodriguez has had better stats in the previous years. Also, he is one of the best at understanding the game and can help to continue to develop Weiters into the All-Star he will hopefully become.
