I think this is a great deal. He won't be ready until about mid-season, but that's fine. Baltimore is six deep in the rotation right now; A starting pitcher like Joe Saunders would not have signed here to become 7th on the depth chart. Where would he pitch right now? Johan can continue to rehab, and maybe he can provide some valuable innings in what would be a depleted pitching staff. These are exactly the types of moves that winning teams make in order to maintain depth throughout the season. It's obvious his arm gave out after one half of the 2012 season. But in that first half, he was pitching like a #2 pitcher. Two years, one shoulder surgery later, and a transition to the AL EAST, and we've almost certainly seen the end of Johan's TOTR days. But if he can come in if/when the staff is running low/injured/tired, and provide BOTR statistics, he could very valuable. One, he would throw some much needed innings. Two, he gives Gausman and Wright some extra development time. Good Move Mr. Duquette.
