Transaction: Orioles sign RHP Edgmer Escalona

Transaction: Orioles sign RHP Edgmer Escalona

Edgmer Escalona is another likely Relief Pitcher, although DD's comments indicate he may be an option to start with the magical invention of a third pitch. Besides adding another 80 Name to the roster, not sure what this signing means. He has been pretty mediocre in his career.

Yeah, I think that talk about a shot with a third pitch is a throwaway comment at best. Also it's somewhat hard to read much into what Venezuelan lefties are hitting against him. But really having alternatives in spring training (due to injuries) is always somewhat smart. Also you never know if another team gets into a jam early and have something appealing they can move.
