This selection just made good sense. They didn't go chasing a power bat. They went run production here. We also do not know what our outfield situation will really be in 4-5 years time so having a guy that projects as a CF is a smart move. The "Top of the order" tag seems premature right now but who knows?

I hope we didn't re-draft Xavier Avery.

Hart will be bigger than Avery at least muscularly. He throws like Avery though but is faster, truly elite speed.

Hart is coming out of JUCO and reportedly has more baseball polish than Avery had at the time he was drafted so I don't think that's an accurate comp.

Hart is coming out of high school and has committed to Georgia Tech not JUCO.

Oops! Guess that wouldn't be such a bad connection to make after all then!

But not a fair one. Hart is not seen as a "Project" at the plate like Avery was from day one. Honest, I'd give the kid a year and a half before you even come to any sort of conclusion. The tough part is getting him signed and into a short season club this year.

He agreed to terms.

By Steve Adams [June 20, 2013 at 10:57am CST]

Dan Connolly of the Baltimore Sun reports that the Orioles have reached an agreement with competitive balance pick Josh Hart. The prep outfielder from Georgia will receive a slightly under-slot bonus that will come in just under $1.5MM (Twitter links). Baseball America reported in April that the assigned pick value of Hart's No. 37 slot was $1,508,600. Hart is advised by SFX.

ESPN's Keith Law ranked Hart as the No. 50 prospect in this year's draft. MLB.com's Jonathan Mayo had Hart ranked 54th on his Top 100, while Baseball America had him 57th on their Top 500. Law writes that Hart's best attributes are his bat speed and his ability to run. Mayo feels that Hart "profiles as a top-of-the-order type, a guy who will use his speed on both sides of the ball to be a basestealing threat and an excellent defender in the outfield."
