What do the Orioles have in Chris Dickerson?

What do the Orioles have in Chris Dickerson?

Chris Dickerson

- 31 years old, same age/positions/handedness as Nate McLouth, who seems to have reinvented himself
- has averaged just 13 net steals per 162 game average in the majors, but has averaged 27 net steals per 162 game in the minors
- regarded as a plus defender
- career batting line of .281 .382 .454 at AAA
- career batting line of .268 .352 .406 in the majors
- has a not so ugly .250 .340 .313 batting line against LHP in the majors
- under Orioles control through the 2016 season

I think that role w/fall to Henry Urrutia if it happens. Anyway I haven't given up on Reimold yet.

I do find it odd that the Orioles have Dickerson, Pearce, and Reimold on the same roster. I'm pretty sure the Orioles have been using Reimold as the everyday DH. I still believe he is going to breakout sooner or later. I think a lot of players, coming off big injuries/surgeries, usually take awhile to get back to where they were before the injury. That is why many pitchers usually have an average first year off of tommy john, but then return to original form their second year. I think this could possibly be the case for Reimold. I wasn't predicting too much at the beginning of the year for him; something along the lines of .240/.320/.430.

I see him as the classic fourth OF. Good defense, speed, and the occasional timely bat (like last night).

Hope Buck gets him enough ABs to keep him fresh.

I don't see him rotting on the bench. Not Buck's MO. 8-)

Looks like our LH DH until the trading deadline. The best part is that it looks like Buck will use him in the OF getting Markakis and Jones rests at DH. This will be very beneficial later in the season as both of those guys are fresh.

I would like to see this more at the RH DH spot too. Maybe Wieters DH a little more and CDavis a bit...Keep em fresh for later in the season.

He looks like he will hit enough and be a value but at the deadline I believe we will make an upgrade to a legit bat.

We may already have one! Then there's also Henry Urrutia sitting down there at Bowie.

I think the upgrade needed is in starting pitching. The can't keep sending the bullpen out there 3 and 4 innings each game or they'll burn it out.

Various times, Dan Duquette will bring in a new acquisition with either limited amounts of success at the big leagues and call them qualified major league'rs(See Dana Eveland and others). But, I think Chris Dickerson is really a major league'r. He has dominated AAA, (.281/.382/.454) and played well in the majors (.270/.350/.424). He won't hit to a .931 OPS for much longer, but he looks likes one of those outfielders that are on the brink of starting in the majors. A player who is better than a bench player, but isn't quite a starter.

perfect 4th outfielder. He has made me forget about Riemold. On a bad team he could crack the starting line up..... He may also be a good trade chip given our depth w/ Urutia and Hoes who will challenge for time soon.

I don't think Dickerson is going anywhere soon. He's seem like a Buck kind of guy. If anything, I could see Reimold getting DFA'd 8-)

I don't see Hoes challenging for a spot. No power. Better as part of a trade package. If he could have played second, he w/have been perfect, but no way he can start or sub in O's outfield. They have ample reserves.

Not that I can remember. You're probably associating him with Hoes, since his and Avery's names always seem to be uttered in the same sentence ever since Hoes switched to outfield.
