The top of the second inning was a perfect example of why Chris Tillman
is not an elite pitcher despite his talent.
He has the back up C down 1 - 2 and just nibbles his way into a walk. Then he throws two nasty strikes to the next batter and, instead of just finishing him off with the very same stuff he just went 0 - 2 on, he nibbles his way to a 3 - 2 count and is forced to come in with three straight pitches over the plate which the batter couldn't handled resulting in two foul pop ups and a third pop up for the out.
Then, in the top of the sixth with a four run lead and two outs, he decides he HAS to nibble and walks Lorenzo Cain. A good hitter, but someone with NO power. That forces him to pitch to Moustakas, who had already had two hits off of him, and BANG it's a two run game.
WHEN is he going to accept that his stuff is good enough to go after a hitter when he has him down two strikes? The nibbling in just the second alone cost him an entire extra innings' worth of pitches.
