The real question is how to separate the actual AAAA players, who by definition are never going to produce in the majors, but will produce well in AAA, from the guys that are just slow to adapt in the ML. That is one of the hardest parts of being a GM figuring out when to push them, when to sit them and when to send them back down.
We have had a ton of AAAA players in recent years that people want to really think the best of and think that maybe this time with the right amount of patience they will break through. It's really just a by-product of us being so bad for so long with no real end in sight. We are hoping for a miracle, one of those guys that comes out of nowhere like Pujols, to save our franchise. It doesn't happen often.
BP guys are more odd since they are only used an inning at a time, a lot of them can be serviceable in the ML when on other teams they would be stuck in AAA. A guy like Mickolio you can find enough reasoning between injuries and youth that maybe he needs another shot, whereas a guy like Sarfate you have to worry is he throwing it by people in AAA who can't hit FB that hard, but in the ML EVERYONE can hit a 96mph FB if it's straight. You kinda have to treat the BP like interchangeable parts, if one doesn't work well, send him down and pick up another one, guys like Tanaka, Egan, Pelzer etc. are down there waiting for a shot and can probably do just as well.
