As per Britt

The Orioles have signed RHP Jair Jurrjens to a minor league contract with an invitation to major league spring training.

You could see this coming for at least the last week or so.

Yeah but it was the failed physical that kinda killed any excitement about the signing.

Until he proves me wrong, I won't expect anything of him really. He hasn't pitched a full season since 2009. Although he has the potential to be a great pitcher, I won't count on him. I proposed signing a low-risk, high-reward pitcher like Jurrjens or Braden AFTER we signed a durable/consistent starter like Saunders or Marcum.

I agree, especially with the last sentence.

He hit 93 in his start today, but sat mostly at 89-90. It's early in the spring, so like most pitchers there's reason to expect his velocity to slowly build as we get closer to the season. I don't think he needs to sit 93 to be successful, but his average velocity needs to be around 91 (where it's been in his previous successful seasons).

He wasn't sharp, but he looked healthy. If he really is then he should be able to regain his prior form and becomes as much as another #3 SP. If not, he's a minor league signing and we don't have anything to lose.

If he can stay in the low 90's with his fastball then that makes his awesome change-up even better.

If his legs are back, then we have a real asset in the minors waiting for his opportunity to be called up.

Looks like the minors is where he's gonna wind up. But that's ok.

THIS is the Jair Jurrjens we THOUGHT we were signing. THIS guy would be an impact SP.

I would imagine that Jurrjens will be one of the final decisions that will be made, especially after today's outing. I still think we need that 2nd lefty in the starting rotation. Hopefully Matusz will keep doing good things.

If at mid-season, there is need and he's ready this could prove to be a brilliant signing.
