Jaime Esquivel is one of many raw but intriguing arms in Baltimore’s minor league system. He was a 28th round selection back in 2010, but signed for an above-slot bonus of $225,000. Joe Jordan compared him to Matt Garza at the time of the draft.

In 2012, Esquivel struck out 29 batters in 25 innings for the IronBirds and made his last appearance of the season with the Frederick Keys, where he pitched 2 scoreless innings. He missed some time during the middle of the season due to an unknown injury.

This kid has his future in his own hands. Good nutrition and a concentrated leg program should add a MPH or two to his FB and give him the stamina to get into the Eighth if can control his pitch count. If he works diligently on his change up it can become a second out pitch. He'll need to separate the two pitches by at least ten MPH or so to keep them off of his straight FB.

If he is serious about the conditioning, fills out in a constructive way, and masters the change up he can be taken seriously in the ST of 2015.

The ranking is a surprise to me. Not a bad thing though. I just don't typically follow player at Aberdeen. Fine write up. I look forward to following his time in Delmarva.

I saw him once and came away impressed; plus I've heard good things from scouts and evaluators.

He's far away but he has a lot of talent.
