Do you still see the Orioles trading for a bat?

PostPost #1 by Jordan Tuwiner » December 12th, 2012, 11:52 am

We've moved past the Winter Meetings and although there has recently been a few big trades, the buzz surrounding the Orioles had calmed down.

Do you still see the team trading for a bat?

Billy Butler is probably off the board. The only other options I really see:
- Garrett Jones
- Justin Morneau
- Michael Morse if the Nats re-sign Laroche

I would be interested in Morse but the price is probably a bit too high.

Yes. They will trade for a bat ... at the trade deadline. No need to rush things and overpay. Why not wait and see what we have with the current group of players?

That would also allow some of the young SPs to further establish themselves and improve their value, because as of now it seems like other teams don't value them as much as the Orioles do.

I just don't see the value in Morse. He's not a plus defender in LF and I can see McLouth (who is) having the same OPS. His bat is NOT enough for 1B and he's not a better defender there than I can Davis becoming. Why we would want to give up value for him is beyond me.

I still think the best option is to sign LaRoche. The Nats are holding the line at 2 years. Why not offer him two years at 1M more and the third year as a vested option at three or four M more with that amount as the buyout if he doesn't make the vesting criteria. This deal would be a "take it or leave it" by the end of the day so that he can't shop it around.

Davis has the POTENTIAL to become an above average or better defender, but LaRoche is that now, and he's a run producing LH bat.

I agree too. Ecspecially if the med reports on Reimold are good enough to believe he can come back 100% and be a full time, mostly DH type...After what he did in the early part of the year I dont think the Os want to give up on him..Trading for someone now would make him a platoon guy.

I don't like Morse as all. I would even hesitate to take him if we could get him for FREE. He's a bad defender in LF and 1B (according to fangraphs and my eyes), has never been "the guy" in the middle of a lineup, has proven injury prone, has poor plate discipline, and has really only had one good full season (that was in the NL).

NO thank you.

The crazy thing is that it turns out Butler was never really on the board.

Seems like it's Laroche or bust right now. Either way, I think we have a nice lineup 8-)

I'd consider it a plus if they don't sign LaRoche.

If Laroche falls through, I would like to see what we could do with Morneau and re-visit that possibility 8-)
