I just don't see the value in Morse. He's not a plus defender in LF and I can see McLouth (who is) having the same OPS. His bat is NOT enough for 1B and he's not a better defender there than I can Davis becoming. Why we would want to give up value for him is beyond me.
I still think the best option is to sign LaRoche. The Nats are holding the line at 2 years. Why not offer him two years at 1M more and the third year as a vested option at three or four M more with that amount as the buyout if he doesn't make the vesting criteria. This deal would be a "take it or leave it" by the end of the day so that he can't shop it around.
Davis has the POTENTIAL to become an above average or better defender, but LaRoche is that now, and he's a run producing LH bat.
