If we can't sign LaRoche I'd be willing to settle for Swisher IF they limit the deal to two years and a vested option. Essentially, the same contract the Nats are offering LaRoche.

They will have to overspend to sign Swisher and that goes against what you said in this earlier post:

If we over spend anywhere it should be in our scouting, development and International signings. Fill the pipeline with young marketable prospects and we can trade for what we need at a price we can afford.

Maybe so, but IMO he's not worth where the market is. I would make the offer I thought was worth and not budge from that. If that means he goes somewhere else then we win.

I agree with Ofahn, if he is looking to get a deal something comparable to what others have recently gotten I'd rather we went our own way.

You can always expect to see a few players get signed for deals more than their worth, but it rarely works out well for the team in question.

While I love Swisher and have wanted him on this team since free agency started I'm afraid he is just simply going to be far more expensive than what he will be worth.

With the recent signings of Victorino and Pagan I imagine Swisher is asking for around 4/60. I think the max I would go is 4/48 for Swisher and I'm afraid that in this current market he will get much more than that.

IMO anything beyond 2/26M is a bad contract regardless of how stupid other teams are.

I'd go 2/22m for Swish. Don't really think he fits in the clubhouse though so I would be okay with him going anywhere else.

In 2012 he hit better at home but had more power on the road, in 2011 he was better at home, in 2010 he was better on the road, and in 2009 he was better on the road.
