If they can trade for a young first baseman like Hosmer or even Smoak (or get a top-notch prospect for that position) and re-sign Saunders, plus continue to pick up other nuggets here and there as they've been doing, I'd consider it a decent off-season.I don't think they have to sign Hamilton or Swisher, or pay out 40 million for Dickey or Dempster, to be successful.

I really think they need to re-sign Saunders. He has experience, and seems to handle tough situations very well. If he reverts back to last seasons early struggles he could always be flipped at the trade deadline.

My guess is that they're willing to offer a one year deal with a vesting option, but no more. IMO that's a fair deal for him off of last year. I don't think they see him as worth a two year risk. Not with Bundy and Gausman coming in 2014.
