If it was arbitration or a one year contract I might agree, but you're looking at a probably 80M investment on a player that simply hasn't been able to harness his substantial potential and has multiple holes in his game. I would suggest you consider that before you propose contracts that might harm the future of this team.

I'd like them to re-sign Saunders for a year plus maybe a mutual option year. He's only 31, and I was thinking that he mite go for a short contract like that to get his stats up and make it more likely he'll be given a lucrative multi-year deal down the pike.He was a combined 9-13 w/a 4.07 ERA last season.The O's had a bunch of first-year starters, and the sophomore jinx could cut thru that rotation like a scythe. Saunders gives them a proven commodity who provides insurance.

I can understand your skepticism, but just remember we DID win 93 games last year with basically the same group at 2B.

Yes, as long as that player has a high OBA and knows how to produce a quality AB.

Striking out is part of the game. When you get dangerous hitter in the line up striking out comes with it. But it also can pay off when he hits it out to the bleachers.

What you're describing is more common with LOSING teams than winning ones.

They hit the 2nd most HR in the AL last year. They don't need more power. They need more people who can get on base so that when they do hit HR they are 2 or 3 run HR not solo HR. His speed would be nice but it's negated by the fact he doesn't get on base enough. No need to spend 80 or so million over the next 5 years for another bottom of the batting order player.
