In Matt Wieters, the Orioles already have their starting catcher for the next 5 years, but also have what looks to be their backup catcher in Caleb Joseph. The Libscomb University product was drafted in the 7th round of the 2008 MLB draft and signed for $125,000.

Really like that they're moving him around the field a little bit to try and make him a backup catcher with some versatility ala Jake Fox...altho apparently without quite the pop. Altho he may be a little better of a catcher

I am not quite sure how to peg CJ. He is maybe the best all around catcher in the system, but I think others rank ahead on him defensively and offensively. There is nothing wrong with being in a backup role, but at one point in time I thought he would have pushed Wieters to another position or at least gave him a run for the money.

I feel like Joseph may in fact one day push Wieters to the field given the strength of his defense. I don't think he will ever show the power or overall offensive pop that Wieters has (but still waiting to show). We have to remember the amount of time it takes to mature and be ready at the C spot, and this kid only has 2.5 seasons under his belt. He's a graet example of the players the O's have in the system teetering on becoming a solid B prospect with a good season or slipping into organization player status with one strong or weak season.
