The #Orioles have claimed 2B Alexi Casilla off of waivers from Minnesota.

Looks like their 2B search is over. https://twitter.com/danconnollysun/stat ... 2083079168
Says Duquette about waiver claim Alexi Casilla: "He has really good speed and plays good defense. He should be in the mix (for 2b) this year

That spells the end for Robert Andino. Casilla is a switch hitter also.

I'm not so sure about that. First, we have until Nov. 30th to agree on a contract or we can non tender him without a financial penalty. I can see Casilla as negotiating leverage on Andino and vice versa. Maybe something like the first 1.3 or 1.4M contract signed stays, the other goes.

If he could revert to his 2010 numbers we would have a bargain.

Sorry; meant to quote this:
Dan Duquette says Casilla acquisition means he's not going to actively pursue another 2B. Club has him, Andino, Flaherty, Roberts right now

Having those four guys TODAY doesn't mean we'll have all four of them on December 1st.

That's true. I still see them focusing more on LF and SP before 2B.

Oh, I agree. I'm just saying that Andino and Casilla are essentially two sides of the same coin, and they take up TWO roster spots. Maybe, just maybe, the team will use this situation as leverage to keep the ONE guy they want at the contract they see as fair.

I'd love to share your optimism. If nothing else, Duquette has shown a complete willingness to stockpile mediocre veterans and not commit himself to any of them as expected contributors. It worked out with McLouth and Ford, and acquisitons I openly didn't like, like Tejada, ultimately didn't matter at all.

But I still have to say that I think we just picked up our everyday 2B for next year, and I think it was a really bad move. Casilla is bad.

To be clear, I don't think Casilla is the solution, but it appears Duquette is done searching. Of course he may have just said that, but I would not be surprised if that is the last 2B they bring in.

I'm wondering if our everyday 2B isn't getting ready to jugar beisbol en un lugar soleado.
