The poise is unbelievable. He seems to have zero emotion and simply rears back on the fastball.

Shocked that teams still swing at so many pitches. Wonder if that changes down the road.

That strike out of Marlon Byrd with 2nd and 3rd 1 out was amazing. He threw his fastest pitch in the 7th inning with all the pressure on him and all the Sox fans standing and cheering. He looked nervous his first inning against the Yankees in his first career start but since that inning you're right he hasn't shown any emotion at all.

I wouldn't call him incredible but I was impressed with the seventh when he got out of a second and third jam with one out. I think Valentine did us a favor by bunting the two runners along with no outs, thus giving up an out. I thought it was a rather dumb move on his part considering McDonald had doubled earlier against Chen

The fact that he's so much better with an extra day of rest makes the strongest argument that he needs to spend his winter in an extensive leg strengthening program. If he builds his legs and endurance he will be a seven inning or longer machine every fifth day.

Outside one one game at Fenway, that was the best I've been him pitch. He is really tough with added rest between starts

Which is no different than asking a 440 guy to become an 880 guy. He needs to adjust his conditioning.

He was a rookie this year. I'm sure the training staff has instructed him on what he needs to do in the off season.

...and if he does he will be a real stud next year. IMO Chen, Hammel, Tillman, Matusz, and Britton all have the qualities that could make them solid #2 SPs on a contender.

I don't know about solid #2's. Maybe a couple of them could but I see most of them as #3's.

Without getting to much into it I would rate Hammel as a #2, Tillman and Chen as #3's, Matusz and Britton as #4's.

Tillman and Britton IMO have the highest ceilings. Matusz is a toss up as a starter. Chen and Hammel are what they are.
