Who has been the O's MVP this season?

Who has been the O's MVP this season? It's a really tough question.

I want to go with Jones or Wieters, but I think Chen deserves a lot of consideration. He's been the only starter who has pitched consistently all year without injury.

Not as an individual but I vote for the Orioles Bullpen.
Second would be Jones with his late inning RBIs.
Third is Wieters with his control of both the pitching staff and run game with the bonus of hitting.

These all could be reversed and I would have no problem with that.

It's hard not to have Jim Johnson's name in the mix. I mean the guy has broke the O's record for saves and is just lights out and automatic when he comes in for the save. Without him in the closer role we would never won all those close games. Normally I don't have pitchers in MVP races but what a year he has had.

Right now I would pick Matt Wieters just SLIGHTLY over Adam Jones, but the last ten games could change my mind.

I agree. I've been thinking about it lately and it's hard to give it to anyone else.

Johnson has been a shut down closer but Jones is simply more important to this team. He's also probably been the most consistent hitter on the team while Wieters has been cold for great periods of time.

If you mean his bat, I agree; but his skills behind the plate and his leadership on the field have never been in a slump. It's the reason I give him the SLIGHT edge, but only SLIGHT edge over Jones.

Adam Jones and I don't think it is really even close.

He plays literally every day, and leads the team in leadership and offensive statistics for the most part. His defense has greatly improved this year and he has made strides in all aspects of the game.

Just for argument's sake would you say those words would describe Wieters, too?

If I were a media member with a vote I would wait until the last inning of the last game this year to decide. For me, it's THAT close. If either player carries the team during the last ten games then they would be my choice.

True, and handling the pitching staff and controlling the run game are important. Jones consistency at the plate just makes him more valuable IMO.

Take Wieters off the team and the team is probably still around .500. Take Johnson off the team and they are probably over .500. Take Jones off the team and I'd be surprised if they were close to .500.
