It's the FIVE walks that jump out at me. While an injury is a possibility, I see this as one of two things. 1) He's sulking about being at AAA; 2) He's trying TOO hard and getting away from his release point while over throwing.

All that talent. All those head issues.

This is the guy that blanked out the yankees over 8 innings. Now he can't even get AAA hitters out.

The only reason he started Opening Day was because Buck likes him and the O's had no clue Hammel or Chen would be this good going into the season. He did nothing to earn it.

Roch has had a man crush on Arrieta ever since his first start in the big leagues. It sounds like he is starting to get worried about him in his recent blog.

I understand that. He was still thought to be the best pitcher in a particular major league rotation

One thing to remember on Arrieta. The bone chip shaved off roughly takes a full year to see a gain back in performance.
So I've been told.

I classify this season as a disappointment, but not writing him off by any means. Same with Britton.

Actually it did cross my mind but I didn't have enough info to speculate. You deserve your first point for bringing it up.

Regardless, I find it difficult to believe that if Mike Griffin saw Jake going away from the adjustments during the game that they had worked on he wouldn't have made a trip to the mound to remind him, and then reinforce that between innings. The fact that he had FIVE walks tells me that Jake doesn't have a clue at this point how to convert his talent into quality performance.

To be fair, he could have had the chip shaved off in 2010. I remember a lot of people were upset he didn't. Either way, I don't think anyone is writing him, Matusz, or Britton off because of this season.

Good outing statistically for Arrieta on Friday night. Very happy to see only 2 walks on the night.

6.2ip 2er 3h 2bb 8k 1hr as he lowered his era to 5.21 with AAA.

6ip 1h 2er 5b 8k tonight for Arrieta. Somehow, he only threw 96 pitches on the night. 6ip with 2er is always a good outing but the 5 walks is discouraging. Hopefully, it's due to tweaks that Peterson made and he is adjusting to them. He may be up in Baltimore if Tommy Hunter has another bad outing.

These are TILLMAN'S starts and appearances at Norfolk under the Peterson Approach. Trended upward after the Middle of May.

06/27/12 Tillman 5 2/3 5 1 1 1 7 0 3.63

Peterson's approach is not instant but a progression it would seem. The whole muscle memory thingy.

It will be interesting if he makes another good start and kills the walks. It would not be a shock for him to come up real soon and pitch like he did in parts of April. He could be very big for us down the stretch...and we have Hammel coming back.

Finally, an impressive start for Arrieta. Has all that muscle memory worked? Did Peterson do his magic once again? Did getting back in Baltimore for a few days clear his head and remind him how close he is to being on a contending team? Who knows, but he finally dominated!

7ip 2h 0r 1bb 6k and lowered his ERA to 4.24. It was a double header so the 7 innings was a complete game. He only threw 82 pitches.

If I'am correct, Arrieta is in line to make the start for Norfolk on the 3rd. He should make that start and then come up to the bigs for bullpen work. We could do that right?
