Cubs Claim Miguel Socolovich

The Orioles announced this afternoon that the Chicago Cubs claimed reliever Miguel Socolovich off waivers. They designated him for assignment nine days ago to make room for left-hander J.C. Romero on the 40-man roster.

The Cubs optioned Socolovich to Triple-A Iowa.

Socolovich posted a 1.90 ERA in 28 games at Triple-A Norfolk and was named to the International League All-Star team. However, he registered a 6.97 ERA in six appearances and 10 1/3 innings with the Orioles during two stints with the club.

I never like to lose a player but Socolovich seemed to be the quintessential 4A guy.

Count me as one whom thinks it is a good pickup for the Cubs. The Orioles simply didn't have the time or spot to let him figure it out at the MLB level, but the cubs sure do.

For the Orioles, not really a big deal, but the Cubs have a little over a month now to see what he has.

I think it's a very nice pickup for the Cubs. Peterson talked about him an awful lot whenever he spoke about Tillman. Another lost player due to Kevin Gregg.

"And Kevin Gregg strikes out the side to end the game". Was that the first time he's ever done that as an Orioles pitcher?
